- 1605 – Gunpowder Plot: Guy Fawkes is arrested.
- 1796 - Catherine the Great suffered a stroke while taking a bath and subsequently died at 10:15 the following evening without having regained consciousness.
- 1872 - Women's suffrage: In defiance of the law, suffragist Susan B. Anthony votes for the first time, and is later fined $100.
- 1916 - The Everett Massacre takes place as political differences lead to a shoot-out between IWW organizers and local police
- 1924 - Diagonal Symphony film has premiers privately in Germany.
