David Cronenberg
From The Art and Popular Culture Encyclopedia
"Death to Videodrome! Long live the new flesh!" "The television screen is the retina of the mind's eye. Therefore, the television screen is part of the physical structure of the brain. Therefore, whatever appears in the television screen emerges as raw experience for those who watch it. Therefore, television is reality, and reality is less than television."--Brian O'Blivion in Videodrome (1983) by David Cronenberg |

David Paul Cronenberg (born March 15, 1943) is a Canadian film director and occasional actor. He is one of the principal originators of what is commonly known as the body horror or venereal horror genre. This style of filmmaking explore people's fears of bodily transformation and infection. In his films, the psychological is typically intertwined with the physical. In the first half of his career, he explored these themes mostly through horror and science fiction, although his work has since expanded beyond these genres.
