Lost In Music

"He's the Greatest Dancer" is a Disco song written and produced by Bernard Edwards and Nile Rodgers for Sister Sledge's third album We Are Family (1979). The song was released as a single in 1979 and reached number one on the U.S. R&B singles chart and number nine on the pop singles chart.

In 1998, the song was sampled by Will Smith in his number one hit single Gettin' Jiggy Wit It.

The song was recorded and released by Dannii Minogue to a largely indifferent audience.

Background

Following the success of their single "Love Don't Go Through No Changes on Me" in 1974, Sister Sledge had failed to have another major hit on U.S. R&B charts. The group had considered retiring from the music industry until Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards, members of the disco band Chic, offered to work with the group. Rodgers and Edwards composed the song while recording the Chic album C'est Chic in New York City.
