Pornosophy is a portmanteau word of porn (pornography) and sophia (wisdom) that hints at the connection between pornography and philosophy. A related term is erosophy.

The term was perhaps first mentioned in print as "Pornosophical philotheology. Metaphysics in Mecklenburg street!" , a phrase uttered by Lynch in Ulysses. See philotheology and Mecklenburg street.

The American magazine Evergreen in 1960, in volume 4, issues 13-15, has a chapter entitled "Erotics and pornosophy."

It is to be found in such titles as Stefan Zweifel's Pornosophie & Imachination - Sade/Lamettrie/Hegel.
