"Summer Madness" (1974) is an instrumental tune that was released in 1974 by Kool & the Gang on their album Light of Worlds. It reached number 35 on the Billboard Hot 100 and number 36 on the Hot Soul Singles charts. It has subsequently become one of the most sampled R&B compositions of all time. As of 2018, over 145 recordings had sampled it.
Uses
"Summer Madness" has been used in various media and sampled in many notable recordings:
- It appears in the 1976 film Rocky.
- A cover on Mary J. Blige's 1998 live album The Tour. Also sampled in "Message in Our Music" from the album Love & Life.
- 1991: "Summertime," via a sample by DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince.
- Sampled by Gang Starr for DJ Premier in Deep Concentration.
- 1993: "Jimmi Diggin' Cats" via a sample by Digable Planets on the album Reachin' (A New Refutation of Time and Space).
- 1994 song by H-Town for the Above the Rim soundtrack, written and produced by Jodeci's DeVante Swing.

- 1997 song "Incident at Gate 7" by Thievery Corporation on their debut album Sounds from the Thievery Hi-Fi sampled the opening keyboard riff.
- 1998 song "You Ain't a Killer" by Big Pun on his debut album Capital Punishment.
- 1999 song "Boy You Knock Me Out" via a sample by Tatyana Ali featuring Will Smith. The song also contains a version of the lyrics from the aforementioned "Summertime" that used the same sample.
- In the 2001 film Baby Boy, an American coming-of-age film written, produced and directed by John Singleton.
- In the 2002 video game Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, on the Fever 105 radio channel; also appears in the first trailer for the game.
- In the 2004 film You Got Served, in a scene where it is revealed that one of the supporting characters has died.
- In a 2006 Nike shoe commercial featuring LeBron James' "The LeBrons".
- In the 2006 Tony Hawk's Project 8 soundtrack.
- Bob Baldwin released a cover on his album Lookin' Back (2009).
- Rapper Wale sampled the live version for his track "Mama Told Me" from his debut album Attention Deficit (2009).
- Shy FX & T Power on their album Set It Off, on the track "Don't Give a Damn".
- Rappers T.I. and Dr. Dre sampled the live version for their track "Popped Off" (2012).
- Rollergirl! remixed the song for his EP Heaven (2012).
- Mr Twin Sister in their song "Rude Boy".
- Tinashe on her track "Wrong" from her mixtape Amethyst (2015).
- Richard Elliot released a cover on his album Summer Madness (2016).
- Tokay Maidza on the track "Simulation", from her album Tkay (2016).
- Mila J on the track "Kicking' Back" (2016), from her album 213.
