The state or quality of being apolitical can be the apathy and/or the antipathy towards all political affiliations. According to some theories this is most common among individuals from the lower and middle classes in relatively affluent societies such as the United States since the 1950s, and especially since the 1980s, who often lack retention of the subject matter of their educations. Or, they may simply disagree with all political viewpoints presented to them by their educations, which often severely limit or else gloss over all but the most general stereotypes of political opinions. Iconoclastic intellectuals, who may well also be misanthropes, are leading examples of this supposed apathetic attitude.
Being apolititcal can also just refer to situations were people take an unbiased position in regards to political matters.
