Attempting the Impossible[1] (1928) is a painting by René Magritte. The painting depicts a man and a woman. The woman looks all solid but for her arm, which the man is about to paint into the scene, as if she were a statue within a painting being painted to life. It is a variation of the ancient Greek myth of Pygmalion and Galatea.
