"Some photographers quickly realized that what were known as academic nudes also had a market as erotic photographs. And soon they were assuming the risks of producing outright pornography. As early as 1851, Moulin was fined for selling a pornographic daguerreotype. In 1860 Auguste Belloc was jailed for three months after police seized 5,000 pornographic photographs in his studio. Auguste Belloc (Montrabé, 1800 - Paris, 1867) was a French photographer, known for his erotic works.

Biographie

Belloc fit ses études au lycée Louis-le-Grand et s'intéressa à la photographie dès 1845, plus particulièrement au process du collodion humide. Bon perdant, devant les succèse de Frederick Scott Archer, il nomma ce procédé le Archerotype.

En 1853, il publia à compte d'auteur un Traité théorique et pratique du procédé au collodion en photographie.

Belloc eut plusieurs studios (boulevard Monmartre, rue Lancry) et fut l'un des premiers membres de la Société Française de Photographie, fondée en 1854, qu'il rejoignit en 1855.
