"Erst kommt das Fressen, dann kommt die Moral ..." is a dictum by German writer Bertolt Brecht from the The Threepenny Opera. It translates as "First comes food, then comes morality."
Fressen is German for eating in an animal way. To gorge, to feed are perhaps better translations.
