"Whenever it has to be pointed out to capitalism that it cannot help the world, it in turn can point out that communism cannot even help itself" (1981) is a dictum by Martin Walser first uttered during Georg Büchner Prize ceremony of 1981.
German:
"Wann immer der Kapitalismus darauf hingewiesen werden muß, daß er der Welt nicht helfen kann, kann er darauf hinweisen, daß der Kommunismus nicht einmal sich selbst helfen kann."
