On May 23, 2006, the Cleveland Volcano in the Aleutian Islands of Alaska erupted. This was photographed[1] from the International Space Station.
The photo shows an ash plume arising from Mount Cleveland, as seen from the International Space Station. Astronauts were the first to observe the eruption, and alerted the Alaska Volcano Observatory.
