In Case of Adversity (En cas de malheur) is a 1958 French film directed by Claude Autant-Lara, screenplay by Jean Aurenche and Pierre Bost, after a novel by Georges Simenon.

Plot

Maitre André Gobillot (Jean Gabin), a distinguished lawyer in his mid 50s, successfully defends a beautiful young woman, Yvette Maudet (Brigitte Bardot), who has committed a robbery. In the process, he falls in love with her, putting his reputation and marriage at risk, but she is not true to him, and ends up being murdered by her jealous lover Mazzetti (Franco Interlenghi).
