Estelle Getty (July 25 1923 – July 22 2008) was an American actress who appeared in film and television and on stage. She is best known for her long-running role on The Golden Girls, for which she won Emmy and Golden Globe Awards. In her later years, after retiring from acting, she battled Lewy body dementia.
