"Fenomenologia di Mike Bongiorno" (1961? "Phenomenology of Mike Bongiorno" is a short essay by Umberto Eco. Mike Bongiorno was a that time the most popular quiz show host in Italy. In this essay, Eco used advanced academic theories to shed light on Mike Bongiorno and his way of communicating. Eco held that Mike Bongiorno was so good at portraying himself as no better than average in every respect, that 100% of his audience could feel good about themselves.
The essay was later included in the collection Diario minimo (1963).
