The meal still life or food still life is a special form of still life. In these painting, tables are presented featuring food, tableware and other objects and in some cases, animals and/or insects. The genre came into being at the time that the still life became an autonomous art genre aroudn 1600 and flourished in the first half of the 17th century . The term is synonymous with Banket(je), Ontbijt(je), Laid table, Breakfast-piece, Banquet piece, Imbissstillleben and Frühstücksstillleben.
