Giancarlo Meo was an Italian record producer working during the 1980s and 1990s.

Biography

Giancarlo Meo began his career as a record producer in the 1980s. He soon became one of the founders of the Italian dance movement, a movement popular both in Italy and outside. Together with Claudio Simonetti, through his company Banana Records, he brought success to artists including Easy Going, Vivien Vee, Kasso and Capricorn. During the same period, he produced the hit song 'Gioca Jouer' performed by Claudio Cecchetto, a song which remains popular with both adults and children.

Hit Mania

At the beginning of the 1990s he created the trade mark Hit Mania, a series of rhythm and dance compliation albums which continue to be produced to date. Hit Mania compilations are listened to by a large audience and have a very large fan base. In recent years a Hit Mania Magazine has been published offering music samples and reviews. Other markable publications launched by Giancarlo Meo's firm include Eurodance, Hit Parade Dance, Hitstory and Exotica, all of which are accompanied by a compilation CD.

Hit Mania’s success is linked to that of several successful European music artists. These include the band Lunapop, its lead vocalist Cesare Cremonini, Haiducii (a band that topped European charts with the song 'Dragostea Din Tei'), Zero Assoluto, 2Black, Franco Califano, Aventura (with the single 'Obsésion'), Piotta and Crazy Frog.

Group Universo

Meo's company, Group Universo represents nowadays a 9.3% share of the music industry market as of October 2006. Its musical talents have reached number one in European sales charts a total of thirty six times. Group Universo is also involved in New Media activities ranging from cell phone ringtones and video tones to web exploitation.
