Spent the evening at A's on 2008 September 4. Good food as always, nice conversation, which is a fairly recent development. She lent me a Dutch copy of the 1921 drug lit classic Cocaine by Pitigrilli (in a 1982 translation by Frédérique Van Der Velde for the Dutch-language imprint Uitgeverij C. J. Goossens. I am quite content with laying my hands on a copy in this way. Good things should just fly into your hands.
Pitigrilli was with Mario Mariano and Guido da Verona one of the auteurs maudits of pre-war Italy.
Frédérique Van Der Velde also translated Svevo's De moord in de via Belpoggio en andere verhalen (Eng: The Belpoggio Street Murder)
