Dr. Gunther von Hagens (born Gunther Liebchen, 10 January 1945) is a controversial anatomist who invented the technique for preserving biological tissue specimens called plastination. He is Director of the Body Worlds exhibition of human bodies and anatomical specimens. Von Hagens is known for his black fedora, which he wears even while performing public dissections (a reference to the hat worn in The Anatomy Lesson of Dr. Nicolaes Tulp by Rembrandt).
