Libraries, real or fictitious, have appeared in numerous works of fiction (Anne-Marie Chaintreau et René Lemaître, Drôle de bibliothèques... Le thème de la bibliothèque dans la littérature et le cinéma, Ed. du Cercle de la Librairie, 1993.).
Numrous writers have developed the theme of the ideal library. The Argentinian poet and novelistLe Jorge Luis Borges is one of the more illustrious examples. Some imaginary libraries contain real books, others, also called Biblia abiblia consist of books that have never existed.
