In Praise of the Backside (2002) by Hans-Jürgen Döpp is a book on the buttocks in art and literature.
From the publisher:
- A respectable 92-year-old woman, baroness of her state, was watching at a Cuban swimming pool an elegant man. When asked by her malicious daughter-in-law, "What are you looking at?," she answered without hesitation, "He has a beautiful bottom." Her daughter-in-law then answered, "I chose your son because of his bottom." An ethnological and sociological reflection is lead by Professor Dopp on this fascinating matter that brings to the most incongruous revelations. Beyond our cultural and religious upbringings, women and men pursue their fantasies, which the author tries to unravel with the rigour of a scientist for the pleasure of our eyes.
