J'attendrai was the French version by Rina Ketty in 1939 of the Italian song Tornerai by Dino Olivieri in 1933. The version by Dalida was the first disco version for the album J'attendrai, was in single in 1976 and was at #1 in France. Dalida decided to make a disco album, Coup de chapeau au passé, containing J'attendrai again, but also the following hit, Besame Mucho (Embrasse-moi).

J'attendrai also played in the German movie Das Boot or The Boat by Wolfgang Petersen starring Jurgen Prochnow. It was the favorite of the commander of a German submarine during World War II. The version played in the movie was the one sung by the French singer Rina Ketty in 1939.

The intro of J'attendrai is also heard in a sleeping quarters of the underground barracks of Fort Eben-Emael. The room shows visitors what sleeping quarters of regular soldiers looked like in 1940, the year in which Belgium was attacked by Nazi-Germany.

J'attendrai has also been recorded by Claude François, Django Reinhardt, the great jazz guitarist, and by Tino Rossi.

J'attendrai (recorded by Jean Sablon) features in the motion picture 'A Good Year' featuring Russel Crowe, it also features on the soundtrack.
