The Jackson family is an American family of musicians who originated in Gary, Indiana and later relocated to Encino, California. The Jacksons are most prominent for featuring several individuals who influenced and shaped the sound of popular music. With the groundbreaking success of The Jackson 5, the eldest sons of Joseph Walter and Katherine Esther Jackson, Jackie, Tito, Jermaine, Marlon and Michael, set the family on a path of musical success that spread among younger siblings including La Toya, Randy and, especially, Janet. Eldest sister Rebbie also had a brief successful music career. The acclaim of The Jackson 5 led the group to become known as the "First Family of Soul"; the continued success of Michael and Janet's careers as solo artists led the Jacksons to become known as the "Royal Family of Pop". Moreover, as a unit, The Jacksons alone have been blessed with a 15-year reign as the first family of soul music, and as one of the few black groups to achieve teen idol status among music fans of all races, with hits such as I Want You Back, ABC, I'll Be There, Dancing Machine, Blame It on the Boogie, Heartbreak Hotel and Can You Feel It.
