Biography

Jacques Pellegrin paints portraits, landscapes and still-lifes. He started to paint at 8 years old. When he was 11 years old, he carried off the first price from the Aix-en-Provence city hall. His style connected first to classic and realist art movement then he discovered Impressionism. His influence lasted until 1970. After translator/interpret studies in Munich, he obtained a German (language) Licence in Aix-en-Provence. Teaching was quickly forsaken in favour of a free artist life full of chances. He totally devotes to painting from 1980 and studied German Expressionism. The painter was influenced by Fauvism and french Expressionism with Vincent van Gogh André Derain, Albert Marquet, Kees van Dongen, Henri Matisse, but also by the Provence's and Marseille's school : Auguste Chabaud, Louis-Mathieu Verdilhan, Pierre Ambrogiani. His fundamental guideline : to paint and depict his epoch, his time. He frequently uses weever and ardent colors underlining his figures by a black thick stroke. Each painting tells a story, an anecdote, a memory. In the same time, strongly anchored in his epoch, when Jacques Pellegrin raises up the past, he does not put any nostalgy, only affection.

He is henceforth mentioned in the Benezit 1999 & 2006.
