Jean Delumeau (18 June 1923 – 13 January 2020) was a French historian specializing in the Catholic church history and author of several books regarding the subject. He held the Chair of the History of Religious Mentalities (1975–1994) at the Collège de France (former emeritus professor) and was a member of the Académie des inscriptions et belles-lettres.

Delumeau was born in Nantes, and obtained his early education in several Catholic boarding schools. In 1943 he entered the École Normal Supérieure, and he later studied at the École Française de Rome, where Fernand Braudel was one of his mentors.
