Johann Gustav Droysen (July 6, 1808 – June 19, 1884) was a German historian. His history of Alexander the Great was the first work representing a new school of German historical thought which idealized power held by so-called "great" men. His research and writing demonstrated a characteristic comprehensiveness and thoroughness with sources that gave him influence as a teacher and scholar.
