John Cassell (23 January, 1817 - 2 April, 1865) was a British publisher and businessperson who published magazines aimed at the middle class. He also served as an editor of many of the magazines he published. Originally a tea and coffee merchant, from around 1850 his firm started printing illustrated magazines, with the objective of providing good literature to those who might not read it otherwise. Self-educated, Cassell was born in Manchester and died in London. In 1883, his company moved into the insurance industry under the name Cassell & Company, Limited.
