John Ferriar (1761 - 1815), was a Scottish physician, bibliophile and writer, noted for his studies of the causes of diseases such as typhoid.

He published Essay on Massinger, Medical Histories and Reflections 1792-5-8, Illustrations of Sterne (1798) and An Essay Towards a Theory of Apparitions. A review of this essay appears in The Quarterly.
