La Fille Elisa (1877) is a novel by Edmond de Goncourt. It is "the story of a working-class prostitute who is jailed for life for murdering her soldier-lover."[1]

Vincent Van Gogh greatly admired at least two of Goncourt's works, one of them being La fille Elisa, 1877. Van Gogh mentioned Goncourt's works in his letters and one of his still life paintings shows three books, one of them being La fille Élisa.[2]
