The Legend of Good Women

In Greek mythology, Laodamia referred to two different women:

  1. Laodamia was the mother of Sarpedon by Zeus, and a daughter of Bellerophon.
  2. The wife of Protesilaus and daughter of Acastus and Astydameia. Her husband, Protesilaus, was the first of the Greeks to land on Trojan soil, and the first casualty of the Trojan War. As they were only just married, Protesilaus was allowed to return to his wife for only three hours before returning to the underworld. Thereafter Laodamia killed herself rather than be without him.
