Les Origines[1] (1883, The Origins) is a portfolio of eight lithographic prints by Odilon Redon, representing evolution before man. The album was printed by Lemercier et Cie.
Art historians have pointed to the botanist Armand Clavaud (1828-1890), who Redon knew personally, as an inspiration to this series.
The individual prints were orginally untitled. In a letter to André Mellerio Redon explained why: "le titre était déjà très lourd" (English "the title was already very weighty").
