Matthias (ou Mathias) Knutzen (1646 - ?) est, avec son contemporain Spinoza, un précurseur de la philosophie athée moderne. Dans des pamphlets manuscrits auto-édités, ce penseur allemand proclame son hostilité à la féodalité et à la religion qui la soutient, le protestantisme. Ses idées, diffusées en France furent connues de Naigon et de Diderot. Elles ont contribué à la fermentation révolutionnaire qui se développe au Template:S-.

On lui a longtemps attribué le Livre des trois imposteurs (Moïse, Jésus et Mahomet), pamphlet athéiste circulant au XVIIe et XVIIIe siècle.
