"Message From a Black Man" (1969) is a musical composition by The Temptations released on their 1969 album Puzzle People, later covered by The Whatnauts, The Heptones and Derrick Harriott.
It is a Black Power song with the militant refrain: "no matter how hard you try/you can't stop me now."
The lyrics to the song echoed the growing black consciousness in American soul music of that time. The Black Power song featured the militant refrain: "no matter how hard you try/you can't stop me now." The song was a popular radio request in 1969, although the Temptations themselves, who thought the record too forward, never performed it live.
