Anna Maria Mazzini (born March 25, 1940), known as Mina, is a popular Italian singer, acclaimed for her enormous singing and performing talent. Called "The Tiger of Cremona", she was the star attraction of popular Italian television variety shows from the early sixties to the mid seventies. During those years, she dominated the Italian charts with songs penned by the nation's leading songwriters. In Italy her popularity reached levels that have almost never been surpassed. She retired to private life in 1978, giving up public appearances and continuing to release albums on a yearly basis.
