Mosaic authorship is the tradition attributing the five books of the Torah or Pentateuch to Moses, the legendary leader, lawgiver, and prophet of the Israelites.

While Moses is not accepted as an identifiable historical figure in academic biblical scholarship, the possibility of Mosaic authorship continues to be defended by some Orthodox Jewish authors.
