  1. A small hole, opening, or glass, especially in a door, through which to look.

In a number of Kurt Vonnegut's novels (such as Deadeye Dick), when somebody dies, Vonnegut does not call it dying. He writes that this person had their "peephole closed" and when they are born, they simply have their "peephole opened".
