In the second tale of the seventh day in the Decameron, Peronella, her husband returning home, bestows her lover in a barrel; which, being sold by her husband, she avers to have been already sold by herself to one that is inside examining it to see if it be sound. Whereupon the lover jumps out, and causes the husband to scour the barrel for him while he has intercourse with the wife, and afterwards has the husband carry it to his house.

Filostrato narrates this tale, which Boccaccio certainly took from Apuleius's The Golden Ass, the same source as tale V, 10.
