"San Francisco (Be Sure to Wear Flowers in Your Hair)" is a song, written by John Phillips of The Mamas & The Papas, and sung by Scott McKenzie. It was released in 1967 ("The Summer of Love") and became a cultural icon of the hippies.
While the song had originally been written to promote the June, 1967 Monterey Pop Festival, it became an instant hit worldwide (#4 in the United States, #1 in Europe) and quickly transcended its original purpose.
