Sarah Thornton is a writer, ethnographer and sociologist of culture. Her book Club Cultures: Music, Media and Subcultural Capital is an influential work in the study of subcultures. She was also co-editor of the first edition of The Subcultures Reader. Thornton was a full-time lecturer in Media Studies at the University of Sussex and is now a Visiting Research Fellow at Goldsmiths, University of London. She writes about art and the art world for Artforum, Art Review, Art Monthly and The New Yorker.
