Reincarnation
From The Art and Popular Culture Encyclopedia
"Ah, what does it matter to [nature's] hand, which is always at work creating, that this or that mass of flesh which today constitutes an individual biped may be reproduced tomorrow in the form of a thousand different insects?"--Justine by Marquis de Sade [...] The Lobster (2015) tells the story of a dystopian near future in which single people are imprisoned in The Hotel where they are obliged to find a mate in forty-five days. If an occupant manages to find a partner among others, the new couple is given a month to try to live together in a special section of the facility, after which they are freed; failing results in being killed and reincarnated in an animal of own choice, and sent off into The Woods surrounding the structure."--Sholem Stein |

Reincarnation, literally "to be made flesh again", is a doctrine or metaphysical belief that some essential part of a living being (in some variations only human beings) survives death to be reborn in a new body. This essential part is often referred to as the Spirit or Soul, the 'Higher or True Self', 'Divine Spark', 'I' or the 'Ego' (not to be confused with the ego as defined by psychology).
