The Dead Man (French: Le Mort) is a story by Georges Bataille published posthumously. It was adapted for a short film as The Deadman (1987).

Style

The book, about 60 pages is a juxtaposition of sparse text and on the bottom of the page a sort of summary of each page. Thus the "summary" of the first page reads: "Marie Reste Seule Avec Le Mort."

Plot

Edouard dies, Marie is in the room with him. Marie leaves the room and goes to an inn. There she initiates debaucheries with Pierrot.
