There's a Riot Goin' On is the fifth album by American funk/soul/rock band Sly & the Family Stone, released on November 20 1971 on Epic (see 1971 in music). Essentially a Sly Stone solo project, the album is frequently cited as one of the greatest and most influential recordings of all time. Compared to earlier Sly & the Family Stone albums, There's a Riot Goin' On embraced a darker, more foreboding sound, stylistically reflecting the general feeling of lost hope and crushed dreams that prevailed for many people during the 1970s. The original title of the album was Africa Talks To You.
