Many of Goethe's works, especially Faust , the Roman Elegies , and the Venetian Epigrams, depict hetero- and homosexual erotic passions.

Venezianische Epigramme sind Sinngedichte von Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. Im Frühjahr 1790 in Venedig nach dem Vorbild des Martial niedergeschrieben, kommentiert der Autor darin verdrossen bis bissig europäische Zustände und Zeitgeschichte. Goethe publiziert die Mehrzahl jener Bonmots und Spottgedichte anonym und „entschärft“ in Schillers Musen-Almanach für das Jahr 1796.
