"We hold these truths to be self-evident" is a dictum by Thomas Jefferson from the United States Declaration of Independence:
- "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness."
They were repeated by Martin Luther King Jr. in his "I Have a Dream" speech:
"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness."
The 1988 single "Truth Of Self Evidence" by Reese & Santonio is built around two voice samples from Martin Luther King's speech, "We hold these truths to be self-evident" and "I still have a dream".[1].
