Lucas Cranach der Ältere veröffentlichte 1521 das Passional Christi und Antichristi: eine Folge von 13 Bildpaaren, die Christus und Antichrist gegenüberstellten, mit Bibelstellen dazu. 1545 erschien Cranachs Abbildung des Papsttums, eine Sammlung drastischer Karikaturen mit erklärenden Begleittexten von Luther. Simon Rosarius schuf um 1590 nochmals eine solche antithetische Bildserie.
