F.C. De Kampioenen, (F.C. The Champions) is a long-running Flemish sitcom which airs on the Belgian-Flemish channel één chronicling the (mis)adventures of a fictional local football team. Starting in 1990, it is currently (2008) in its 19th series with over 240 half-hour long episodes produced, making it one of the most successful comedy programs ever on Belgian television. A 19th series is currently being filmed, and a full-length movie is in the pipeline for 2009.
The series relies heavily on stereotypical characters and farce for its humour. The story is mainly set around a few members of the football club (Marc and Bieke, Pol and Doortje, Xavier and Carmen) who regularly visit the cantine of the football club before or after a soccer training or match. The cantine is owned by Pascale, who has a relationship with Maurice. The football club is sponsored by the boss of a sausage factory, Balthazar Boma. Next to the field there is an Antiques Shop which is owned by Fernand, but he is actually a fraudeur. Most of the episodes are based on misunderstandings or dirty tricks from the fraudeur Fernand (formerly the garage owner DDT or the chef BTW).
Currently, Johan Gevers is director of the sitcom. The scenario writers are Bart Cooreman (1995-), Wout Thielemans (1996-), Knarf Van Pellecom (2000-), Rudy Morren (2006-) and Carmino D'haene (2009-).
Series 1-18 have all been released on DVD through Universal Pictures and Lime-Lights.
