The German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche frequently used italic type in his writing.
Subsequently, as of 2014, the search sting "Nietzsche's italics" brings up 250 hits on Google books.[1].
The use of italic type for putting stress on words was typical for Friedrich Nietzsche. It is as if Nietzsche had meant the text to be orated.
