In 1939, the Haagsch maandblad writes:
- "Marquis de Sade, de beroemde en beruchte schrijver van romans, waarin de afschuwelijkste sexueele afwijkingen met welbehagen worden verhaald en die daardoor een geheelen tak der sexueele pathologie tot peet diende (het sadisme)"

Carl-Michael Edenborg's Vertigo has published the works of Marquis de Sade in Swedish a translation, and a series of books called the "Classics of transgressions" (Överträdelsens klassiker), including works such as Gabrielle Wittkop's Le Nécrophile (in Swedish 2004).
